 When other exterior cleaning companies come to us for advice and our process you know you are doing something right. Even being named the down under "wizard of wood" says a lot to the respect we have earned from our results.

Here's a breakdown of our 3-step process for cleaning a wood deck and fence using sodium metasilicate, light pressure rinsing, and oxalic acid to brighten:

Cleaning with Sodium Metasilicate

Sodium metasilicate is an alkaline cleaning agent that can effectively remove dirt, grime, and some stains from wood surfaces. Here's how we use it:

Preparation: We need the area clear around the deck or fence, removing any furniture, plants, or items that might get in the way.

Application: We apply the diluted sodium metasilicate solution to the wood surfaces using a sprayer.

Scrubbing: For more stubborn stains, we sometimes gently scrub the surface with a soft-bristle brush.

Rinsing: After some dwell time, we use either a pressure wand with a wide low - medium pressure tip or a surface cleaner which is set up with lower pressure tips to rinse dirt and grime away.

Brightening with Oxalic Acid

Oxalic acid is commonly used to brighten wood and remove stains caused by tannins and rust. Here's how to use it:

Application: We Apply the oxalic acid solution to the wood using a sprayer. Allowing some dwell time.

Rinsing: Again rinsing the solution off the surface, the surface is now brighter and generally back to its original color.

Once the wood dries it will however not look so rich in color .
